Are You Feeling Blue?

As we are now in fall, and soon to follow winter weather, it is important to be mindful of how our environment affects our mental and physical health.

Seasonality affects our routines, activities and the amount of time we spend indoors/outdoors. It influences our diet and the foods we crave. It affects our moods and our resistance to stressful situations.

And we need to be especially mindful of temperature extremes. Extreme cold puts added stress on our bodies which can leave us feeling a little more depleted.

The shorter days influence our circadian rhythms and can cause disruptions in our sleep patterns or cause us to feel more/less energized.

Therefore if you are feeling a little off…the weather might be to blame!

That doesn’t mean that you can use it as an excuse to not keep up with your healthy habits and self care. It means that you need to be aware of how your environment influences your health and wellbeing, and take the proper steps to make certain it does not derail your healthy habits.
